When Roshni Chaudhuri started thinking about her higher education, she was clear about one thing – she wanted a path that would not limit her choices but instead allow her to grow, explore, and build strong technical skills. This search led her to the IIT Madras BS Degree in Electronic Systems, a program that gave her exactly that – the freedom to shape her own learning journey.

For Roshni, what really made this degree different was its flexible structure. Unlike traditional programs with fixed routines, this structure allowed her to make her own decisions and go ahead at her own pace. Over time, this gave her the confidence to try new things and take charge of her own learning.

These courses didn’t just stay theoretical – they helped her see what she could actually do in the field and where her interests lie.

Roshni gradually learned to manage the demands of the program. Assignments, projects, lab assignments & exams, and continuous learning required discipline and consistency. While it wasn’t always easy, this phase pushed her to become more organized and stay consistent with her work.

Her journey went beyond academics, as she also found a strong sense of connection with fellow students. She became part of ‘Sahityika’, the Literary Society of the IITM BS Degree, where she formed many friendships within the program. She also joined ‘Akord’, the Music Society, continuing her interest in music. In Paradox, she participated in both technical and musical competitions and even won prizes.

These experiences made her journey more enjoyable and meaningful, and she realised that learning here is also about meeting people, working in teams, and indulging in different experiences.

One experience that stayed with her was an on campus lab session where faculty members directly asked students for feedback on the program. For Roshni, this was something new and motivating. It showed her that the voices of students truly mattered and learning is a collaborative process, where both students and educators contributed towards improvement. She didn’t limit herself to just coursework and looked for opportunities to gain practical exposure. This led her to take up a two months internship in VSLI at Jadavpur University. During this time, she got a closer look at how the industry works and built a clearer understanding of its real-world applications.

Looking ahead, Roshni plans to complete her diploma level soon and continue exploring more opportunities. She aims to gain more professional experience and later pursue a higher education abroad. As part of this journey, she has recently started working as an Engineering Intern at Curtin Nova LLP in Navi Mumbai. In this role, she is exploring areas like firmware, web technologies, DevOps, and machine learning, where the foundation built through her coursework is helping her adapt and learn across different domains. Balancing a job along with studies is not easy. After coming back from work, she spends her evenings completing assignments and staying on track with her coursework. While demanding, this phase is helping her grow stronger, more disciplined, and better prepared for the future.

For Roshni, the biggest takeaway from this journey is simple: the program gives learners the time and space to think, explore, and build your own path. She believes that how students choose to use this opportunity can truly shape their future.
